💃 Cuban Salsa Group Classes 🕺

▫️Tuesdays:

🔹6:30 - 7:30pm | Cantando La Rueda (Levels 3 & Up - Four Classes Total)

Cantando La Rueda may seem intimidating, but now is your opportunity to give it a try with ample practice, support, encouragement, & feedback. This special class series is for upper intermediate & advanced dancers & focuses on the skills needed to precisely call figures (Casino partnering & group moves) as a leader or follower while keeping the circle dynamic, fluid, & fun for all participants. Students will clearly call out specific moves at the precise time & be given pointers on Rueda etiquette, plus shown how to modulate when dancers of similar & different proficiencies join the circle. Students will be able to share/popcorn call the Rueda, & designated cantantes will be given an entire song to apply key concepts.
Instructor: Nikki & Chris

🔸6:30 - 7:30pm | Cuban Styling, Musicality, & Body Movement for Leaders & Followers (Levels 2 & Up - Four Classes Total) NEW

This class is for intermediate & advanced dancers already familiar with the basic steps & focuses on detailed body movement isolations & vocabulary, drills, spinning, & combinations designed to relax the body & allow for more expressive dancing with Cuban flavor. In each 60-minute class, students will be able to recognize the intricate structure of Cuban music while developing their own personal style. Key musical components will be accentuated with attention to your head, shoulders, arms, hands/fingers, torso/ribcage, pelvis, & hips. Understand, recognize, incorporate, & play with body movement possibilities that exist within Cuban popular dances: Casino, Son, Mambo, Cha-Cha-Chá, Mozambiqué, & Pilón as well as Yuca, Rumba, & Afro-Cuban Orisha dances. Please note that this class is designed for both leaders & followers (all genders).
Instructor: Jenny

🔹7:30-8:30pm | Intermediate-transition-to-Advanced Cuban Salsa & Rueda de Casino (Level 3 - Eight Classes Total)

This progressive class series is divided into two parts: 30-min of Casino partnering & 30-min of Rueda for dancers at the intermediate/advanced level with emphasis on connected & separated patterns, styling, body movement, & footwork. Precision, technique, & body mechanics are thoroughly dissected & articulated, allowing students to comfortably execute more complex concepts. Students will also fuse other Cuban traditional & popular dances into the proposed framework, all while dancing to rhythmically dense Timba as a means to combine intricate patterns with dynamic, rhythmic variation. The second part of class includes 30-min dedicated solely to Rueda de Casino group dancing & picks up precisely where Level 2.5 concluded with more intricate turn patterns, interconnected group moves, & unique partner exchanges. The curriculum includes patterns commonly danced in both Havana & Santiago de Cuba.
Instructors: Nikki & Chris

🔹8:30-9:30pm | Advanced Cuban Salsa & Rueda de Casino (Levels 4 & 5 - Eight Classes Total)

Fuákata’s most advanced weekly group class offering focuses on delving deeper into the creative aspects & possibilities of Casino from Havana & Santiago de Cuba, which will include but not be limited to: advanced partnerwork (non-cumulative) with an emphasis on technique & style; Rueda: group moves & patterns (cumulative) & call/response technique; Triples: one lead/two followers, &/or two leads/one follower; Salsa Suelta: footwork, body motion, & isolations.
