I feel honored to host an intimate home concert for these fantastic, high level tango musicians. Santiago Serget (Buenos Aires), Heyni Solera (D.C.) & Cecilia Garcia (Buenos Aires).

This concert will be consisted with duo, trio and quartet pieces including the new commissioned pieces from my upcoming album.

-Santiago Segret, born in the United States and raised in Argentina, is a bandoneon player, singer, and holder of a Bachelor's degree in Musical Composition from the National University of the Arts. Currently, he teaches bandoneon at the Conservatory of the City of Buenos Aires, the University of San Martín, and the National University of the Arts. He is a member of the National University of the Arts orchestra, the Patio trio, and the Diego Schissi Quintet (all of which are winners of Gardel awards). -Heyni Solera, Bandoneonist / Composer / Ethnomusicologist
Praised for her “soulful bandoneón” (Washington Classical Review), Heyni Solera is a sought after bandoneonist based in Washington, DC. Heyni has enjoyed a career in the US and abroad performing in Argentina, Canada and Australia and collaborating with prominent tango artists such as Ramiro Boero, Julian Peralta, Pablo Jaurena, Santiago Segret, Pedro Giraudo and many more. In 2019, Heyni was a member of the Argentine tango orchestra schools La Orquesta de Tango de la Una and the Conservatorio Superior de “Manuel de Falla”, where she had the opportunity to perform in the prestigious Centro Cultural Kirchner.
Heyni is part of the cello/bandoneon duo, Arco & Aire, with cellist Maxfield Wollam-Fisher. Their arrangement of “La Bordona” won Best Latin Song for the 2022 Wammie awards, which can be found in their EP Overture. In July 2023, Arco & Aire recorded their first full album of new contemporary tango music, and was released July of 2024. Heyni is also the other half of the Avalos-Solera Bandoneon Duo. In April of 2022, they released the album, Bach en Bandoneon, and in the spring of 2022 they presented the album on their first United States tour, and then later in Buenos Aires in February of 2024. The duo's next full album of their arrangements of tangos and zambas with the singer, Luisina Mathieu, will be released in the summer of 2024. Heyni is the bandoneonist of Las Almas, an ensemble which focuses on female tango musicians in a typically male dominated genre, and has performed several times at the San Francisco International Arts Festival. In April of 2022, Heyni had her Kennedy Center debut as one of the bandoneonists of the Latin-Grammy nominated PanAmerican Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble at the Argentine Embassy of Washington, DC, the Barns at the Wolf Trap, and the Kennedy Center.
As a scholar, Heyni received her Masters of Music in Ethnomusicology at the University of Maryland, College Park. She has developed the lectures A GPS for Tango Listening: What Makes Tango a Tango? and Today’s Woman in Tango: Carving Out Spaces amongst others. These lectures have been extensively presented throughout the United States and Canada for public audiences and academics alike.
Past projects include playing in the orchestra of the highly praised IN Series production of Le Cabaret de Carmen at Source Theatre in Washington, D.C. and at Baltimore Theatre Project in Baltimore, Maryland. She creates various content such as “Today’s Tango with Heyni”, a mini-series that features today’s contemporary tango musicians throughout the world, and “Discovering Troilo,” a mini-series that delves into the iconic style of Anibal Troilo’s tango orchestra. She also curates the concert series, “The Art of the Bandoneon”, where she features some the world’s best bandoneonists. https://heynisolera.com/

-Sumi Lee
A classical pianist with M.A in Music, from SF Conservatory of Music. She worked with opera companies until she moved to Buenos Aires to study Tango music at La Orquesta Escuela de Tango, Emilio Balcarce. She studied with maestros, Victor Lavallén, Colangelo, Piro, Pablo Estigarribia, etc. Since returning home, she has been presenting contemporary tango music with her groups “Las Almas” & “Sumi Lee Collective” for SF International Arts Festival, Flower Piano Festival, Sebastopol Arts & La Nuestra Tango Festival, NYC. She was featured in “Gobbi Inedíto” album and is currently pursuing an interdisciplinary graduate degree at Berklee school of Music and new solo album.
